Main Text

4. To Everina Wollstonecraft, 22 March [1788]

Your sister told me I might add a postscript & you see what room she has left me, not to make love surely! only to express my good wishes for your happiness.

Text: Bod. Dep. b.210/2 (fasc. 2). Published: The Collected Letters of Mary Wollstonecraft, ed. Janet Todd (New York: Columbia University Press, 2003), 153, n. 151. Johnson's note to Everina Wollstonecraft is added at the bottom of Mary Wollstonecraft's letter to her sister. Everina was in Paris, where she was in contact with the bookseller Laurent who, as Todd notes, was presumably a business associate of Johnson.
