pg 79In his Memoir of the Author's Life Hogg writes that his song 'Donald M'Donald' was composed in 1800 'on the threatened invasion by Buonaparte', and published as a broadside by John Hamilton of Edinburgh (Memoir of the Author's Life and Familiar Anecdotes of Sir Walter Scott, ed. by D. S. Mack (Edinburgh: Scottish Academic Press, 1972), p. 14). This rare broadside is reproduced in facsimile overleaf from the copy in Stirling University Library, by kind permission of the Librarian. The broadside is undated, but the sheet of paper on which this copy is printed carries the watermark date 1801.
