Editor’s Note
1 After their tour from the Isle of Man to Staffa and Iona (see PW iv. 40–3; Morley, i. 245–6), W. W. had left H. C. R. in Scotland and returned to Rydal Mount by way of Glasgow and Kilmarnock. He arrived home in time to entertain Sir Aubrey de Vere and members of his family (see Hamilton, ii. 65). H. C. R. reached Rydal on 13 Sept. after another extensive tour through eastern Scotland, the Highlands, and Edinburgh.
