Mitto vnam epistolam ad Marlianum, quod is 8suspicatus esset priorem librum Vtopiae a me profectum: id nolebam Editor’s NoteCritical Apparatus9serpere, quum sit nihil vanius. Dialogus ille Iulii et Petri, vt in-10telligo, iam τῷ Καγκελαρίῳ μεγάλῳ in manibus est et vnice placet. Editor’s Note11Moriam in dies expectamus. Exigitur a populo ingens pecunia eaque 16praesens. Adiuua me, quaeso, tuo consilio. Editor’s NoteCritical Apparatus26Curabimus mox alium epistolarum libellum excudendum, quo plures Editor’s Note27possint legere. Budaicam postremam ad te mitto. Praecor Maruffo Editor’s Note28quo dignus est cum sua syngrapha; nam Saulos istos nusquam licet 29comprehendere, ni Brugas proficiscar. Bene vale, More suauissime.

Editor’s Note31Adest isthic Franciscus.

Editor’s Note
3. alium] Cf. 1. 23 and Ep. 545. 2. Reuchlinica] Evidently a collection of some of the fugitive 'scripta causam Reuchlinianam spectantia' enumerated by Böcking, Suppl. vol. ii.
Critical Apparatus
6. F Corrig., cf. Cic. Tusc. 3. 18. 42: sapientia E.
Editor’s Note
See Böcking, op. cit. p. 78.
Editor’s Note
7. Tungrensis] Arnold Luydius of Tongres († 28 Aug. 1540), one of the champions of the scholastic theology against Reuchlin. He was M.A. at Cologne 1489 and Dean of the Arts Faculty 1494. He was head of the Bursa Laurentiana about the same time, and received from the University a prebend in the church of St. Mary. On 4 July 1496 H. Quentel publishèd for him a volume on Logic, Epitomata siue reparationes logicae veteris et nouae Aristotelis. A new edition appeared on 3 Feb. 1500, by which time he had become D.D. He resigned his Cologne prebend in favour of one at Liège offered to him by a former pupil, Erard a Marck, Bp. of Liège, 1506–38. Subsequently he returned to Cologne on receiving a canonry there. See Böcking and ADB. i. 583.
Marlianum] See Ep. 411. 8 n.

Editor’s Note
9. Dialogus] Cf. Ep. 502 introd.
vt intelligo] Cf. Ep. 532. 26.
Editor’s Note
11. Moriam] Perhaps Froben's undated edition (cf. Ep. 419. 15 n.); though after Ep. 473 its completion might have been expected earlier.
Editor’s Note
13. habet] from Rome; cf. Ep. 447.
Editor’s Note
15. Exigitur] For these demands see Henne ii, p. 183.
Editor’s Note
P. 495. There is a letter from Accard in Marin. E (fo. h3), with a reply from Marineus; both undated, but apparently written in Spain. Accard refers with praise to Marineus' History of the Kings of Aragon, Saragossa, G. Cocus Alemanus, 30 April 1509.
Editor’s Note
P. 495, Ep. 544 introd. Another trace of Marian Accard, besides those given in vol. iii, p. xxvi, is the dedication to him of a short work by Christopher Scobar Bethicus, describing him as 'auricularius' to Raynerius a Montoro, bp. of Cefalu in Sicily (1496‐†1511: Gams p. 946): printed in the Ad artem litterariam Introductiones of Ant. Nebrissensis, Venice, Aug. de Zannis, 28 July 1512, f. 179.

Editor’s Note
23. Pater] Crull; cf. Ep. 545. 2.
Critical Apparatus
26. Curabimus … 27. legere om. F.
Editor’s Note
26. Curabimus] The suppression of this passage in F is in pursuance of Erasmus' attempt to represent that he was not responsible for the publication of C1; cf. vol. i, p. 594, Epp. 534, 546, and LB. App. 214.
Editor’s Note
27. Budaicam] Ep. 522.
Editor’s Note
28. Saulos] Possibly the English double sovereign. The bill may have provided for payment in these coins, which would naturally be difficult to change.
Editor’s Note
31. Franciscus] Berckman.
expletus] Warham had originally received four out of the nine volumes; cf. Ep. 413. 34, 5.
Editor’s Note
