Editor’s Note1655To Samuel Bentham19 August 1801 (Aet 53)

Q.S.P. 19 Aug. 1801. 4 o'clock.

Received yours of yesterday.2 Deeds received at last, and the business done. £1,000 in hand besides the former £2,000 Notes at 90 days, for £2,265: the odd money for interest. No money for Lindegren till the 90 days: unless the Notes can be discounted, which probably they may.

It would not do for me to go to Portsmouth, if at all, before it is ascertained whether Herbert is to be entered or not3 because if afterwards he is entered, then there will be a fresh expence in sending him there.

pg 439I am afraid your Banker's Book represents you £35 richer than you are. At the time I gave you a draught for £40 for yourself, I gave you a draught on Hoares[ ? ]4 to send on my account. This draught is accordingly sent with my vouchers, as received from Upsal for my use: but they omitted to credit me for it in their book. In explanation they say they gave you credit for it in your book.
