Q.S.P. 5 April 1799

I spent several hours in the Chaos yesterday, and dug up out of the ruins 15 or 20 pages more of the Declar. of Rights, making all but 2. This morning I have been obliged to go out upon business. Tomorrow morning I continue my researches.

Observe that the manufacturing of this Chaos was not my own doing, and if it vexes you, think how much more it must vex me.
